'Whats for Dinner' - the answer to life's greatest question

Is anyone else feeling that late-in-the-year slump? Suddenly my usually pretty empty freezer is over following because my plans for a healthy meal became a call to the pizza place, so the fish ends up frozen & forgotten...

But ends always mean new beginnings.

So with 2020 looming, what better time than now to get back on a healthier road to the new year.

With lots of new Veg Out customers this week, this menu is an intro to the quality of veggies I supply; so I'm not jumping in with pak choi and okra (we can all experiment with some artichokes though!) but some classic, old favourites, maybe used in a new and fresh (haha) way.

So until recently I'd never even eaten an artichoke. My husband will tell you I do this annoying thing where I swear blind I hate something; but later admit I have never even tried it. And that's what I used to do with artichokes. They just didn't look yum. But now that i'm in my 30s and basically a full blown adult (although I still like more adulty adults to help me with things, thanks!) I've forgotten my fear and my love of the artichoke was born. Plus artichokes have hearts - I bet they love us back!

Be brave!

My kids love spaghetti bolognese (whose don't, right?) but it gets sooooooo boring. So slowly I'm moving them across to new flavours and experiences, that isnt stock standard italian flavours. Also tacos are just such a fun, interactive meal. I regret not putting 'taco tuesday' on the menu now!

For years I bought store made tomato sauces for pastas. It was just SO convenient and I was sure SO much easier. But when I became a stay at home mom and had more time, I looked into things like that and realised making your own is honestly tossing things in a pot and watching it boil while you catch up on Facebook drama with a glass of red wine.

And finally, to end off a 'its way too close to Christmas' week, this delicious strawberry crumble. I'm not an oats eater (FINE, I've never even tried them. My husband is right) so was skeptical but they are so crunchy and delicious; i left the sugar out the strawberry mixture and it was quite tart, but the vanilla ice cream just brought it all together into a mouthful of warm, gooey, happiness! I recommend Woolworths Extremely Creamy range - its on a 2 for R100 special at the moment; its usually about R70 each.

And thats me for this week. I will seriously try to avoid the local pizza place and follow through; but even just posting it here makes me feel very accountable; so here's hoping!
